Bolton Wanderers' Stelios Giannakopoulos runs with the ball during his team's Premier League game against Southampton. Reebok Stadium, Bolton. 8 November 2003.

Can you name Bolton’s XI from Stelios’ debut v Man Utd in 2003?

Stelios Giannakopoulos signed for Bolton in May 2003 and went on to become a Wanderers legend – but how well do you remember his debut for the Whites, a 4-0 loss to Manchester United in August that same year?

Stelios arrived in Lancashire after seven successful seasons at Olympiacos in his native Greece and was described by then-manager Sam Allardyce as “an attacking midfielder who knows how to score goals.”

While he didn’t actually score that many – 28 in 177 games for Bolton – he did go on to become a fan favourite at the Reebok for his tirelessness and accurate crossing.

His debut was somewhat inauspicious, however. On the opening day of the season, Bolton travelled the short distance to Old Trafford to take on the reigning English champions and took a thumping, losing 4-0.

The season would get much better as it progressed, though, with a classic Wanderers side finishing eighth in the Premier League and reaching the final of the League Cup.

For Stelios, things would get even better the following summer as he won the European Championship for his country in Portugal.

Here, though, we’re asking you to name the Bolton starting XI Big Sam sent out for that opening-day defeat at Old Trafford that kicked things off for Stelios in England. The time to beat from the office is 01:08.

If this gives you a taste for another brain-teaser, why not have a crack at naming the England XI from the 2-0 win over Scotland at Euro 96 (yes, the dentist’s chair game)?
