After beating Brazil, England and South Africa to the hosting rights, Germany proved to be the perfect stage for the world’s best footballers to strut their stuff.
Cities such as Berlin, Dortmund and Munich witnessed some fantastic matches as a number of traditional powers flexed their muscles throughout the 18th World Cup.
Argentina played the most eye-catching football, scoring a number of brilliant goals, before Germany eliminated them in a testy quarter-final.
The hosts, who had low expectations going into the tournament, grew in confidence with every game before a heart-breaking defeat to Italy in the semis.
Italy and France contested the final, which became infamous for a certain headbutt, before Marcello Lippi’s side won a penalty shoot-out to lift the trophy for the fourth time.
Over 100 different players found the back of the net in Germany and we’re asking you to cast your mind back 16 years to name them all. The list is a mix of legendary figures and more obscure players and the score to beat from the Planet Football office is 61/106. Good luck beating that score.
