Can you name the Liverpool XI that beat Crystal Palace 9-0 in 1989?

Liverpool thrashed Bournemouth 9-0 in August 2022, matching their biggest ever top-flight win – but can you name the starting XI from the last time the Reds hit nine in a single league game?

Back in 1989, Liverpool were the best team in the country and welcomed newly-promoted Crystal Palace to Anfield for a midweek clash in September.

Kenny Dalglish’s side had begun the season in mixed form, winning the 1989 FA Charity Shield against Arsenal then earning a win and two draws from their opening three matches.

But the visit of Palace served as a pallette-cleanser for Liverpool, with a remarkable eight different players getting their name on the scoresheet – for the first time in English football history – during a historic night at Anfield.

The victory saw Liverpool replace Millwall at the top of the First Division and the Reds would go on to claim their 18th league title at the end of the season.

But Palace would gain revenge in the FA Cup semi-final the following April, beating Liverpool 4-3 in a famous match at Villa Park.

Liverpool equalled this record-breaking rout against Bournemouth 33 years later but we’d like you to name the starting XI from the Palace match. The score to beat from the Planet Football office is 02:52.

If this gives you a taste for another Liverpool-related challenge, why not have a go at naming their starting XI from Jurgen Klopp’s first game in charge all the way back in 2015.
