Can you name the West Ham XI that beat Man Utd in the FA Cup, 2001?
Fans of West Ham United will have fond memories of their stunning FA Cup victory at Manchester United in January 2001, but can you name the Hammers XI from that afternoon?
Despite a host of talented players, Harry Redknapp’s West Ham went into their Fourth Round tie at Old Trafford with little expectation of getting a result.
While the Hammers were marooned in mid-table, United had won the Premier League title in the previous two seasons and were miles clear at the top when this fixture was played.
But, despite losing 3-1 at Old Trafford just weeks before and a squad decimated by injuries, West Ham proved to be stubborn opponents during this ITV-televised clash.
United spurned a load of early chances, with Teddy Sheringham and Andy Cole being repeat offenders, the Londoners grew into the match and impressed both their large travelling support and watching England manager Sven Goran Eriksson.
With the game goalless in its final quarter, West Ham’s talisman was sent through on goal and ignored the attempts of Fabian Barthez to distract him to put his side 1-0 ahead.
West Ham survived a United onslaught to claim a famous victory, but we’d like to know if you can recall the Hammers starting XI from that overcast afternoon in Manchester.
