Sergio Busquets Barcelona 2008 debut season

Can you name Barcelona’s starting XI from Sergio Busquets’ debut in ’08?

Sergio Busquets has officially joined Inter Miami as a free agent after leaving Barcelona, marking the end of a truly iconic era for both player and club.

The Spaniard blossomed into one of the game’s all-time great midfielders during his peak with La Blaugrana, evolving into what is now the textbook definition of an elite deep-lying playmaker.

Born and raised in Barcelona, Busquets joined the club in his adolescence and rose through the youth ranks; the beginning of the perfect fairytale for one of football’s greatest.

After plying his trade in the B Team under the tutelage of a certain Pep Guardiola, Busquets would make the jump up to first-team football at perhaps the biggest club in the world in 2008.

It was on the 13th September that year when a crowd slightly in excess of 54,000 would witness history as Busquets made his senior Barcelona debut in a 1-1 draw with Racing Santander, having been called upon by new boss Guardiola to be the anchor in his new-look squad. A senior debut that would set the tone for the next four years of Guardiola-inspired domestic and continental dominance.

We all know what happened next; Busquets’ trophy cabinet tells that story. But who lined up alongside him on that day in 2008? We’re asking you to name that very starting XI as we look back on the midfielder’s glistening career at Barcelona.

And if that gives you the quiz bug, why not try and name Barcelona’s top 20 appearance makers since 1990?
