Gavi’s outrageous Barcelona warm-up proves he is a born entertainer

The ability to take your breath away during a warm-up is a feat which can only be achieved by a select few. Barcelona’s Gavi is one that can.

The 18-year-old midfielder has continued to go from strength to strength this season. Under the management of Xavi, Barcelona has been the perfect place for him to thrive.

Gavi has been a regular in the Barcelona side this season and his partnership with Pedri in the middle has continued to thrive. Xavi’s side got the better of Cadiz over the weekend and Gavi played a full 90 minutes.

The youngster created three chances, completed five accurate long balls and won five ground duels. Barcelona maintained their lead over Real Madrid at the top as they are now eight points clear.

Xavi was most pleased with his sides first half performance, although he did recognise that they slowed down the tempo of the match in the second half.

“I think that in general, the team has been good,” Xavi told reporters. “The first half was very good, with dominance and chances. In the second half, we slowed down and it was noticeable.

“We were lucky not to concede. Cadiz deserved at least a goal. They had clear chances, but Ter Stegen was extraordinary. The point difference is nice, but the league is not over yet. We have to keep working hard.”

Gavi is clearly rated very highly by Xavi and he is the face of the next generation at Barcelona. Following their Supercopa de Espana triumph last month, Xavi was full of praise for the youngster.

“He is a kid that excites everyone,” Xavi said in a news conference. “When you see him compete like that, the heart, soul and character that he plays with are contagious for the rest of the team.

“He’s a born leader, too, that all comes naturally to him — and at the age of 18. He is spectacular. I have said it many times, but I don’t get tired of praising him. He has no ceiling, so don’t slow him down.

“We have a really good generation of players and you can see the hunger they have for trophies.”

The youngster will miss Barcelona’s second-leg clash with Manchester United due to a suspension. He will be nervously looking on as his side head to Old Trafford in midweek.

His outrageous warm-up against Cadiz served as a reminder of the brilliant generational talent that Gavi is. The future is bright for the young midfielder.
