Luka Modric is eternal & still scoring ridiculous bangers for Real Madrid
Luka Modric is now older than the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta were when they left La Liga and yet he is still scoring bangers like this on the regular for Real Madrid.
The Croatian has managed to squeeze himself into the GOAT midfielder debate with how ridiculously successful he has been over these last few years.
Andrea Pirlo mastered the art of ageing like a fine wine in a footballing sense, but Modric has absolutely taken this to the next level now.
To put things into context, Modric is older than Wayne Rooney, James Milner and David Silva. Age catches up to us all, but Modric remains immortal.
Real Madrid are notorious for letting players leave when they are no longer at the peak of their powers. To plenty of fans’ surprise, they happily said goodbye to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos before they had got anywhere near Modric’s age.
Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are the new kids on the block who represent the future, but the time of Modric and Toni Kroos has not passed just yet.
There has been plenty of speculation when it comes to the future of the 37-year-old, after all his contract at the Santiago Bernabeu is set to come to and end in the summer.
Of late, his minutes have taken a hit as he has only started in two league matches since the turn of the year. He was on the bench in their most recent match against Elche, but he managed to have a spectacular impact as a substitute.
Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that the 37-year-old can be a dangerous option from the bench, although Modric himself is still pushing for a starting spot.
The manager told reporters: “Obviously Modric is looking to get back to his best form. We’ve known seen that Kroos came off the bench in Bilbao and scored and we’ve seen Modrić come off the bench here vs Elche and score.
“So, they can still be important and contribute off the bench, although I don’t know if they’ll be fully in agreement with such a policy.”
His crisp finish against Elche from the edge of the box was the cherry on top as Real Madrid ran out as 4-0 winners on the night. Pick that one out.

When asked out the role of Modric and Kroos in his post-match press conference, Ancelotti delivered his verdict on the pair. He explained: “They understand very well their role and what I ask them.
“They know there’s a lot of quality inside this squad. It’s a moment of transition. I talked to them about this at the start of the season.”
With the Champions League coming up soon, Modric’s experience and know-how will be vital to Madrid’s chances of progressing.
His deal is set to expire at the end of the season, but we can’t help but feel like he’s still got at least one more season in him at the top level. There’s still more to come from him yet.
