Manchester, England, 10th November 2022. Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United and Alejandro Garnacho of Manchester United enjoy the win during the Carabao Cup match at Old Trafford, Manchester.

Watch: New angle shows full glory of Garnacho’s unreal assist for Man Utd

The Alejandro Garnacho hype train continues full steam ahead after a scintillating cameo in last night’s 4-2 victory over Aston Villa.

The Manchester United starlet was introduced just after the hour mark, when Aston Villa were leading 2-1. But he helped inspire a brilliant comeback, sending Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils through to the last 16.

He’s still only 18 but demonstrated he’s ready to make a major impact, having assisted United’s third and fourth goals. He did well to pounce on an errant pass from Villa goalkeeper Robin Olsen before making the right decision to play a simple pass for Bruno Fernandes to put United ahead in the 78th minute.

After getting the fans off their seats with a sensational Messi-esque surge into the Villa box, Garnacho capped off the display with an absolutely incredible ball to Scott McTominay for the fourth goal.

“It was good that he came on and showed that performance and had that impact in the game, to be able to assist, make the dribbles and run behind,” Ten Hag told Sky Sports after the match.

“There are some things he has to improve, for instance when we go long to go for the second balls. He still has things to learn but quite obviously we are happy with his development and he can contribute to the team.

“It depends on his approach, his attitude. When he keeps working then yes, it is possible (for him to play more). He wants to improve every day. He has to do the right things in his lifestyle. He has the capability.”

Meanwhile, Garnacho could cap off an exceptional few days by being named in the Argentina squad for the World Cup.

The teenager has been named in Lionel Scaloni’s provisional squad and is waiting to hear whether he’s made the final cut.

However, having been born and raised in Spain – qualifying to play for the Albiceleste due to his heritage – his potential inclusion has sparked controversy and debate back in Argentina, in large part due to his reverence for Red Devils team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.

“He does not speak Spanish, he does not know dulce de leche, he never used a birome, he does not know the ‘Caminito’, he does not know the 9th of July, and third, the most important thing: he said that his idol is Cristiano Ronaldo,” Argentinian pundit Guido Glait said on TyC Sports.

“How is he going to say that? He didn’t understand anything. Messi plays in the Argentine national team.”

When you catch this pitchside clip of his stunning assist against Villa, you can see why he’s viewed as a potential game-changer for Argentina at the World Cup.
