Watch: Fabrizio Romano teases new contract talks for Arsenal star man
Arsenal are continuing to be busy during this summer’s transfer window – not just with new additions, but with tying down the futures of their key players, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.
Oleksandr Zinchenko has arrived from Manchester City in a £31million deal, bringing the Gunners’ summer spending to over £100million so far.
The Ukraine international follows the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, who also worked under Mikel Arteta at City, Portuguese playmaker Fabio Vieira from Porto, USA international goalkeeper Matt Turner from New England Revolution and Brazilian starlet Marquinhos from Sao Paolo.
Romano has said that the club may not be done just yet, teasing interest in a “mystery winger”. Another one of their priorities is negotiating a deal with star man Bukayo Saka.
The Italian journalist was a long and wide-ranging interview about Arsenal in CBS Sports’ Que Golazo podcast and discussed Saka’s future at the Emirates.
The Hale End academy graduate was the Gunners’ top scorer last season, with 11 goals in the Premier League and 12 in all competitions. He signed his last extension, which runs until 2024, two years ago.
Arsenal are reportedly looking to extend the youngster’s future at the Emirates even further, with reports suggest that they’ve offered him a new deal worth £150,000.
“At the moment, from what I’m told, it’s in negotiation and Arsenal want to get it done because they know how important it is to have a long-term contract for super talents like Bukayo Saka,” said Romano.
“So they consider Bukayo’s contract a priority, but at the moment it’s not something imminent. It’s in negotiation, they are discussing the salary, I have no information on release clauses.”
