Watch: All the goals from Arsenal’s 5-3 pre-season win against Nurnberg
Arsenal stepped up their preparations for the new Premier League season with a 5-3 win over German side Nurnberg on Friday afternoon.
The Gunners showed plenty of signs of progress during the 2021-22 season and looked set to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2015-16.
But they produced some poor performances in the final weeks of the campaign and were ultimately pipped to fourth spot by Antonio Conte’s Tottenham.
Mikel Arteta has since bolstered his squad with some new arrivals, spending around £80million on Matt Turner, Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Jesus.
“I think the club has done a tremendous job to recruit a player of this stature,” Arteta told Arsenal’s official website after Jesus’ arrival was confirmed.
“It’s somebody that I know personally really well, and we all know really well because he’s played in the league and been really successful.
“It’s a position that’s been on our radar for a long time now and we have managed to get a player that we all wanted, so I’m really happy.”
After doing some pre-season training at London Colney, the squad then travelled to Germany to take on Nurenberg in a friendly at the Max-Morlock Stadium.
Arsenal got off to a dreadful start as goals from Johannes Geis and Kwadwo Duah gave the hosts a 2-0 lead at half-time.
But Jesus came off the bench and halved the deficit 90 seconds later and Mohamed Elneny equalised with a brilliant strike. A pair of own goals put Arsenal 4-2 in front before Lukas Schindler pulled a goal back for Nurnberg.
Jesus had the final say, scoring his second goal of the game in the 75th minute to complete a 5-3 win for his new side.
