Watch: Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard scores the most outrageous free-kick

Martin Odegaard has been fantastic for Arsenal this season and, as the Premier League leaders limber up for the return of domestic action, scored a wonderful free-kick during a friendly match against AC Milan on Tuesday.

Mikel Arteta’s side boast a five-point advantage over nearest challengers Manchester City, who sit second.

And Odegaard, who has been central to the Gunners’ success in 2022-23, opened up about what he believed was the secret behind Arsenal’s great form.

Pressed for comment on what is different about this Arsenal side on BT Sport’s Around The Block, Gunners captain Odegaard revealed: “The team spirit in the group is really good, everyone is really hungry and pushing each other.

“We get along well, that helps! And I think this year, with the signings we made, I think they have taken us to the next step in terms of mentality, quality and focus.

“Everyone understands the principles, the way we want to play even more. [Mikel Arteta] is so focused. It is quite intense. He knows what he wants, but everyone understands if you do what he says, we will perform good.”

The Norway international has already netted six times, just one goal behind his tally for the entirety of last season, and struck another beauty during the friendly with Italian giants Milan in Dubai.

Arsenal were boosted by the return of World Cup stars Ben White and Thomas Partey – with both Granit Xhaka and Matt Turner also in the squad albeit not involved – before their next Premier League match against West Ham on Boxing Day.

And, with the game goalless, Odegaard stepped up and curled an outrageous free-kick beyond Milan goalkeeper and into the back of net.

You really need to see it to believe it.
