Raphinha during Leeds United's match against Crystal Palace in the Premier League, Elland Road, Leeds, November 2021

Watch: Fabrizio Romano on the race for Raphinha: Arsenal, Spurs, Barca…

Fabrizio Romano has posted a new video outlining the state of play with Leeds United star Raphinha and the four clubs competing for his signature – Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Barcelona.

The Italian transfer guru’s latest update on his YouTube channel has broken down the likelihood of Raphinha joining each club, and it doesn’t sound good for the Brazilian’s preferred destination, Barcelona.

“It seems really unlikely for Barcelona to match the price tag that Leeds are asking – £65million, this is the price tag from president Andrea Radrizzani and director Victor Orta” Romano

“Arsenal’s opening bid has been turned down, but Arsenal are still working on Raphinha. It’s not only Gabriel Jesus, it’s also Raphinha on Arsenal’s list.

“So, they are trying and pushing and trying to find a solution. I expect them to push & push again next week.”

Arsenal are as yet the only club to have made an official bid, but it was said to have been dismissed “out of hand” by Leeds after falling well below the Yorkshire club’s valuation.

The latest news is that Arsenal have had a bid accepted by Manchester City for Gabriel Jesus and may well soon turn their attention to the forward’s Brazil team-mate.

But Chelsea and Spurs can offer something that Mikel Arteta’s Gunners can’t – Champions League football – and both clubs are reportedly keen on the Leeds attacker.

“Tottenham are really interested in Raphinha,” added Romano.

“They are discussing with Leeds of the potential of a verbal proposal. I understand that Antonio Conte is a big fan of the player. But at the same point, they know it’s a really complicated deal with many clubs involved.

“Both clubs don’t want to play crazy money. They want to play the right money and don’t want to get involved in a bidding war.”
