Watch: Peter Drury’s commentary on all three Arsenal goals vs Spurs
Arsenal remain at the top of the Premier League following Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Tottenham in the north London derby and Peter Drury’s commentary on all three of their goals will make the spine of every Gunners fan tingle.
Over the years, Drury has developed himself a huge following thanks to his unmatched ability to utilise the English language and weave a web of liquid honey around some of the greatest moments in the game.
The commentator, who works for the Premier League’s world feed, often ends up with a highlights package all of his own after a big game and he was up to his old tricks yet again at the Emirates as he narrated Arsenal’s latest statement victory.
Thomas Partey opened the scoring with a long-range howitzer and Drury expertly paused to allow the sound of Arsenal fans celebrating to take centre stage before adding his own remarks.
Spurs drew level through a Harry Kane penalty, somewhat against the run-of-play, but Mikel Arteta’s side weren’t to be denied after a sensational second-half performance.
Star signing Gabriel Jesus restored Arsenal’s lead after capitalising on a fumble from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris before Granit Xhaka fired home the third.
The 3-1 victory was a modicum of revenge for Arteta after Spurs pipped his side to the final Champions League spot last year and the Arsenal boss was delighted after the game.
“It started in that dressing room,” he told reporters. “You get the right people, the right players and they start to connect with each other, then that takes it to another level.
“There is huge power of the team at any level. You start to get connected and deliver that on the pitch and then you connect as we have done with our fans and it becomes something really, really powerful.
“It is the biggest success this group of players have had.”
And Arsenal fans can relive Saturday’s success with the added pleasure of Drury narrating events.
