Emile Smith Rowe of Arsenal and William Saliba of Arsenal celebrate 3-0 away victory against Bournemouth as the fans chant 'Tequila' for Saliba the Vitality Stadium, Bournemouth, August 21st 2022

Watch: Arsenal’s William Saliba reacts to his catchy new chant

Chances are if you’re an Arsenal fan, the tune of ‘Tequila‘ ‘Saliba’ is still rattling around your head today.

Adapted from the 50s classic Latin-flavoured surf-rock tune by The Champs, we have an early winner for 2022-23’s catchiest chant.

The travelling Arsenal fans were in fine voice yesterday, serenading their players throughout their impressive 3-0 victory at Bournemouth.

New boy Oleksandr Zinchenko is subject of one of their favourite new chants, while returning loanee Saliba – who is enjoying his first run of games for the club – is the subject of another.

Saliba marked another fine individual performance with a stunning finish to cap off the victory at the Vitality Stadium. It was his first goal for the club – at the right end, at least, having scored an own goal last week against Leicester – and ensured some rapturous renditions of the new chant in the away end.

Zinchenko couldn’t help but put his head on his hands in disbelief after Saliba’s brilliant goal.

“He’s incredible,” the Ukrainian told Arsenal.com in his post-match interview. “It looks like this guy has got a lot of experience in his bag, but he’s still so young. Fingers crossed, we’ve got an unbelievable centre-back.

“He’s such a nice guy and he deserves this. A massive thanks to our fans as well, they did unbelievably well during all the games and they helped us a lot and of course, William deserves that song.

“If we’re going to get a clean sheet every single game, they’re going to sing every time!”

There seems to be a really positive around Mikel Arteta’s Gunners at the moment. Gabriel Jesus has taken to his new club like a duck to water, while the additions of Saliba and Zinchenko have also contributed to the squad appearing to go up a level or two this summer.

After the final whistle, the Arsenal players went over to the away end to applaud the supporters. Saliba couldn’t help but smile and luck appreciative as he was treated to the tune.

“It was really solid from start to the end. We came out and dominated, made some good chances and scored some good goals,” club captain Martin Odegaard told Sky Sports.

“We know it’s always difficult coming to these places. We have struggled before but we were so sharp and aggressive. It was a good performance from start to finish.”

“Compared to last season we are a little bit ahead but we have to stay calm and we have to stay humble and see where it takes us.”

Apologies for getting this stuck in your head for the rest of time.
