Watch: Fabrizio Romano confirms Leeds are ‘really interested’ in World Cup star

Fabrizio Romano has provided all the latest on Leeds United target Azzedine Ounahi and has clarified the other clubs who are interested in the midfielder.

Ounahi had an eye-catching World Cup with Morocco and it’s no surprise to see so many clubs in the market for him. The 22-year-old played a key role in their route to the semi-finals, starting in six matches.

Leeds are keen on bolstering their options in midfield and a player like Ounahi could be of real use. For Angers this season he has averaged 2.6 dribbles and 1.2 key passes per game.

As things stand, Leeds are currently 14th in the table, but are only two points above the relegation zone. Midfield is a priority position for Leeds to improve especially after losing Mateusz Klich.

Romano has clarified Leeds interest in the player and has also laid out the other club that they are up against when it comes to signing Ounahi.

“He had a fantastic World Cup together with the whole Moroccan national team and especially Sofyan Amrabat,” the journalist explained on his YouTube channel.

“For Ounahi we can say that Leeds are really interested, we can say that Napoli made a bid [of] €15million to sign the player now and let him join in the summer. Angers are still negotiating with Napoli.

“Some rumours on done deal with PSG, I can tell you that Ounahi will not go to PSG. PSG have a different strategy, they will protect their own talent with Luis Campos as director the vision is now completely different.

“So PSG will not go for Ounahi, they will protect their gem in midfield for the future – Warren Zaire-Emery. So Ounahi is not a target for PSG.”

Given Napoli’s extensive interest in the midfielder, Leeds will need to act fast if they want to tempt him away to the Premier League. Napoli are currently going well in Serie A and would provide quite a tempting offer.

As PSG seem to be out of the race for the player, it looks like a straight shootout between Leeds and Napoli for the midfielder.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are seven points clear at the top of Serie A as things stand and are one of the most in-form side in Europe right now. Ounahi has his pick of the clubs and seemingly will soon decide on his next move.
