Watch: Man Utd target Sesko scores brilliant solo goal against Liverpool

Manchester United transfer target Benjamin Sesko added a few million onto his considerable price tag with a stunning match-winning goal in last night’s friendly against Liverpool.

The Red Bull Salzburg striker looks well on his way to following in the footsteps of the likes of Karim Adeyemi, Patson Daka and Erling Haaland as using the perennial Austrian champions as a springboard to a major European club.

Sesko scored 11 goals in all competitions in his breakthrough season at Salzburg last term. He’s long been identified by scouts as a seriously talented prospect, ever since he was prolific at youth level in his native Slovenia.

The 19-year-old has joked that his team-mates reckon he’s “better than Haaland” and has attracted interest from Newcastle United, Tottenham and Bayern, with Manchester United the latest club to enter the race for his signature.

“We had a lot of offers from really big clubs,” Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic told SPOX about why they originally decided to join Salzburg when he was just 16 three years ago.

“Had we decided on the money, Benjamin would have moved to England or Italy. But we decided to look at the bigger picture and the Salzburg project.

“The biggest clubs in Europe tried to get him. The interest in him was huge; I have never seen anything like it before.

“Salzburg has given Benjamin a path. Here, he can develop. The people in charge really wanted him, which was important to us. Here he also has a greater chance of playing for the first team sooner or later.

“Benjamin is one of the greatest talents of his age group in Europe. He has an incredible body, is tall, fast, has great jumping ability, is technically gifted and his greatest strength is his finishing.”

He certainly demonstrated that talent with a superb man-of-the-match performance against Liverpool, which prompted Red Bull Salzburg to jokingly tweet: “Update: We now want 1 billion, Bruno and Fred the Red for Sesko.”

Sesko scored the only goal of the game against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds by showing exhibiting his lightning-quick pace and powerful ability to charge at the opposition defence.

Picking up the ball just past the halfway line, the youngster had the single-mindedness to go straight for the goal. Striding forward, he played a neat one-two before receiving the ball on the edge of the box and firing past Adrian.

It was just like watching Haaland.

A short while later, Sesko continued to get fans off their feet at the Red Bull Arena in Salzburg with a stunning piece of skill that left Curtis Jones and James Milner eating his dust.
