Watch: Fabrizio Romano explains what Felix move means for Nkunku, Thuram, Mudryk…
Fabrizio Romano has explained what impact Chelsea’s deal for Joao Felix will have on the likes of Christopher Nkunku, Marcus Thuram and Mykhailo Mudryk.
Chelsea have been in desperate need of another forward and they will be hoping that Felix can provide them with enough firepower for the second half of the season.
Graham Potter’s side have failed to score in six of their last eight matches and during that time they have only scored three goals. They currently sit 10th in the table and are 10 points adrift of fourth place.
Romano has provided the latest insight on Felix and what the deal will mean for some of Chelsea’s other targets as well as the impact on other Premier League clubs.
“Joao Felix we can consider him a new Chelsea player,” Romano explained on his YouTube channel. “Full verbal agreement [has been] reached by Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.
“Graham Potter is in a difficult situation and Chelsea wanted to help the manager, especially the board wanted to support the manager to give him something more in terms of important players.
“So Chelsea on Monday morning decided to activate this option after some meetings with Atletico Madrid and the agent of the player, Jorge Mendes.
“They got the green light from the player immediately because Felix was 100% convinced to try this Premier League experience. He wanted to leave Atletico Madrid because of his complicated relationship with Diego Simeone.”
Felix is clearly a very talented player, but he hasn’t quite reached the heights that many people thought since he moved to Spain in 2019. Across 131 appearances for Atletico, he has scored 34 goals.
Romano also provided the latest updates on Chelsea’s other targets in the January window and he clarified if the Felix deal will impact upon any other potential signings.
He adds: “For Thuram, Chelsea are still in contact with people close to the player, but they want to understand how much it would cost to bring the player in now because many clubs want him as a free agent in the summer. So he is still in the list.
“Christopher Nkunku deal with Chelsea is signed, it’s done. There is still no official statement but you can consider his deal as an official deal. So Nkunku will be a Chelsea player in the summer, this Felix deal is not going to change anything.
“We know about Chelsea interest for Mykhailo Mudryk, but Chelsea have no intention to spend €100million as of now on Mudryk. They spoke to Shakhtar, but Shakhtar insisted on €100million package, add-ons included.”
