Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has a great track record with young players and has been passing on his knowledge to Hannibal Mejbri.

Mejbri joined the club from Monaco in 2019 for a reported fee of £9.3million and was named as United’s Under-23s Player of the Year for 2020-21.

The Tunisia international then made two first-team appearances under Ralf Rangnick last season and is rated highly at Old Trafford.

“I have to say that Hannibal is a fantastic player and a great character,” Nemanja Matic told United’s official website. “The talent he has, he needs to use that. I really want to see him in the future and how he will grow.

“I hope to see him get more minutes. I think that every time I see him in training, he surprises me with his quality, he’s still young, but I’m very excited. I really want to see how he’s growing and improving.”

Mejbri reportedly impressed Ten Hag during the training sessions at Carrington and was named in the squad for the pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia.

He was an unused substitute in the friendlies against Liverpool and Melbourne Victory but came off the bench during the 3-1 win over Crystal Palace.

The 19-year-old has now been filmed having a chat with his new manager, who appeared to be passing on some advice.

“What I want to see is that they learn but also they show themselves because they have to deserve a position in top football,” Ten Hag recently told United’s official website when asked about United’s young players.

“You have to deserve your position. It means you have to deliver every day, that demands a certain style, a certain way of life that they have to adapt to, that they probably don’t know yet.

“But I am really looking forward to seeing if they can do it. I hope one or two, they can prove themselves and they come into the squad but, if they want to enter the dressing room, they have to deserve it.”
