Watch: Erik ten Hag celebrates wildly after late equaliser vs Chelsea

Erik ten Hag is starting to have a massive impact at Manchester United and his jubilation following the late equaliser at Chelsea on Saturday will surely endear him further to the Old Trafford faithful.

Ten Hag was appointed manager in April 2022 after United endured one of their worst seasons in living memory under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

And, despite the odd hammering or two, the former Ajax boss has installed some much-missed fighting spirit in the United squad. Speaking after the 4-0 reverse at Brentford in August, Ten Hag said: “I think I made myself clear, I was definitely not happy.

“You can talk about football philosophy, but the basic stuff has to be good. That starts with the right attitude, a fighting attitude on the pitch. I didn’t see that from minute one. You have to bring it every game.

“It starts with yourself. Act as a team, follow the rules and principles and work hard. If you do that you get confidence.”

And, as evidenced by the scenes after Casemiro’s goal at Stamford Bridge at the weekend, Ten Hag has already made huge progress at Old Trafford.

As the Brazil international looped his header past Kepa Arrizabalaga and into the net, the United players couldn’t contain their joy and Ten Hag matched their enthuasism in heart-warming scenes.

Once he’d calmed down, Ten Hag told BBC Sport after the game: “I have to make a big compliment to my team. To fight back with a fourth game in 10 days, you see the spirit and how they deal with setbacks. Really good.

“First half Rashford had two big chances, Antony one against one. You have to score goals in such moments because in top games three chances is massive. You have to score.

“We dictated the game and I am happy with that. If you concede a goal late it is difficult.

“Eight minutes before half time we had some troubles but defence in the second half we didn’t have troubles. The second half we didn’t really create big chances, but also Chelsea didn’t.

“I think it is a fair result. I would have been disappointed if we had gone without a point because we didn’t deserve that. At the end of a tough week to come here, you bring the point home.”
