Watch: Fabrizio Romano gives big update on Man Utd’s Antony chase

Manchester United haven’t given up on the idea of signing Ajax forward Antony this summer, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

Erik ten Hag has already gone back to his former club to sign Argentina international Lisandro Martinez, but he’s not the only one that could make the switch from the Johan Cruyff Arena to Old Trafford.

Brazilian winger Antony has long been mentioned as one of United’s key targets this summer.

The rumours have died down a little in recent weeks as attention has turned to the immediate futures of Frenkie de Jong and Cristiano Ronaldo, but that’s not to say that United have given up on the 22-year-old.

Antony has made nine appearances for Brazil since breaking through into Tite’s squad last year, while he caught the eye with some superb performances for Ajax, for whom he scored 12 goals in all competitions last term.

So far this summer, United have spent in the region of £65million on bringing Tyrell Malacia and Martinez over from the Eredivisie, while also securing the signature of free agent Christian Eriksen, who originally came up through the Ajax academy system.

There’s a distinctly Dutch flavour to the Red Devils’ summer business so far so it would be no surprise to see Antony arrive next, while it remains to be seen what’s next for Netherlands international De Jong, who also played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

“On Antony, it’s important to mention Manchester United – from what I’m told – keep his name in the list,” began Romano.

“So Erik ten Hag still considers Antony an important target for Man United, but we know that Ajax are always asking for around €80million.

“Let’s see if they decide to negotiate with United or not. At the moment there is still no bid, but the agents of Antony, since the beginning of July, they are pushing with Ajax to negotiate with United – and not to have this stance on the price.

“So let’s see what Man United and Ajax will do for Antony, but the name is still there in the list. So not an easy one because Ajax have no intention to sell another key player as always, but they are not stating in public that Antony is untouchable because it always depends on the price.”
