Watch: Fabrizio Romano has news on Chelsea’s Aubameyang chase

Chelsea are looking to add another attacker to Thomas Tuchel’s squad before the end of the transfer window and Fabrizio Romano has brought us an update on their potential deal for Barcelona’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chelsea have been busy in recent weeks, with Tuchel and new owner Todd Boehly chasing transfer targets all across Europe in an attempt to bolster the Blues’ squad.

They have already added first-team players Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella in this transfer window, as well as a slew of younger players with huge potential.

Those youngsters include Omari Hutchinson, brought in from Arsenal, young American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa and Inter Milan wonderkid Cesare Casadei.

It seems the Blues have now turned to the other end of professional football’s age spectrum though, to add a little more experience and proven goal threat to their attack.

Tuchel is reportedly after 33-year-old Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, with whom the German coach worked at Borussia Dortmund.

Reports have emerged from Spain that Chelsea and Barca are negotiating for the former Arsenal man, and journalist Fabrizio Romano has now brought us the latest news on negotiations over his contract and salary.

In a video posted on his YouTube channel on Thursday night, Romano said: “Chelsea – they had a meeting during the evening and the night [of Wednesday] with Pierre Aubameyang’s camp, with intermediaries working on the deal.

“The meeting is on personal terms, more than on Barcelona’s side [of negotiations].

“They [Chelsea] want to understand how much Auba wants as a salary and also how many years of contract, length of the contract. These are the details discussed between Aubameyang and Chelsea.

“Chelsea have a feeling that the player would be ready to accept but it will be important to understand the conditions of this contract.

“So this is a work in progress, but this is a big fight – of course, just meaning a football fight – between Tuchel, who wants Aubameyang, and [Barcelona manager] Xavi, who wants to keep Aubameyang at the club.

“So it will also depend on the proposal, the official proposal to Barcelona from Chelsea.

“So, first step, player’s side. And then Chelsea will jump into it with Barca with an official bid. The deal is on, with talks ongoing while I am speaking.”
