Watch: Fabrizio Romano teases ‘Leeds are doing something’ before transfer deadline

Don’t go to bed just yet: transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Leeds United are working on a potential last-minute trolley dash.

Leeds are famous for transfer deadline day mishaps, from teasing late signings on their official Twitter account only to fail to land anyone to getting Dan James in for a medical only to fail to get a deal over the line.

That was all the way back in 2018, when James was an up-and-coming youngster at Swansea. That transfer saga was shown in full detail in the Take Us Home Amazon documentary; the Wales international was at Elland Road and posed with a new kit, only for Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins to pull the plug at the eleventh hour.

James eventually did join Leeds last summer, having spent two years at Manchester United, but a year later he doesn’t appear to be in Jesse Marsch’s plans for the 2022-23 season. The 24-year-old winger has reportedly completed a medical at Fulham for a season-long loan.

There has been some speculation that Leeds failure to land a new forward would see history repeat itself with another dramatic deadline-day 180 collapsing the move for James.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case. Romano has confirmed that James has signed the deal with Fulham and will be playing his football at Craven Cottage next season.

“Dan James completed medicals as new Fulham player, deal agreed — while Leeds are working on a new signing after Dieng story,” tweeted the Italian transfer specialist.

Bamba Dieng appeared set to sign for Leeds from Marseille in the afternoon. However, the striker had a change of heart and instead flew to Nice – only to fail a medical with the Ligue 1 club.

Alternative options have been suggested, but there is little concrete information out there. However, Romano – speaking on his live transfer deadline day Twitch stream – has suggested that Leeds are going to the wire to try and sign a new player.

“Let me tell you something on a winger – Leeds fans, and Fulham fans, I’m working on it. But Dan James will go to Fulham. He had a medical, it’s true that a deal collapsed with Dieng for Leeds, but it doesn’t change the future of Dan James who will be a Fulham player. Medical completed and now he’s signing the contract.

“But I’m gonna tell you… Leeds are doing something. They are not done with Bamba Dieng collapsing.
