Watch: Gabriel Jesus scores with outrageously cheeky lob for Arsenal
Gabriel Jesus continued his eye-catching pre-season form for Arsenal with a brilliant finish in last night’s 4-0 friendly victory over Chelsea.
Thomas Tuchel was left fuming after Chelsea were outclassed after a brilliant performance from Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, with new signings Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko among their standout performers on the night.
Zinchenko produced some quality moments on his debut, and his former Manchester City team-mate Jesus seems to have taken to his new club like a duck to water.
The Brazilian has scored four goals in four games during Arsenal’s pre-season, and wowed fans last week with a brilliant turn against Orlando City.
He was named man of the match in the demolition of Chelsea, but was withdrawn in the 57th minute for Eddie Nketiah as a precaution.
“Yeah, he got a knock in the first half in his quad I think,” Arteta responded when asked why the Brazilian was withdrawn.
“It wasn’t very comfortable to continue and obviously we weren’t going to take any risks.”
Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Albert Sambi Lakonga added to the scoring for the Gunners, but the pick of the bunch of their goals was undoubtedly Jesus’ opener in the 15th minute.
The 25-year-old forward found himself running free into the Chelsea box and produced a wonderfully cheeky finish, floating the ball over the onrushing Edouard Mendy and into the back of the net.
“I’m really happy,” Arteta said after the win. “With the performance in general and with the tour.
“The attitude from a club perspective to show here, and all the work we have done and understand how big we are and the amount of support that we get.
“Then obviously the performance today is a really good example again, that we are moving forward, improving a lot as a team, but don’t get carried away. It’s a test match and there are still a lot of things to do to get better.”
