Watch: Martinelli rinses Brazil star with outrageous rabona nutmeg
Gabriel Martinelli has been one of the shining lights in the Premier League for Arsenal this season and he has been lighting things up in the Brazilian training camp.
The 21-year-old earnt his place in the Brazil squad after a wonderful start to the 2022-23 campaign, which has seen him score five goals and grab two assists already.
Not only has his output been superb this season but his technical ability has been something to applaud. He has completed 28 successful dribbles in the Premier League which is the second-highest in the league.
We’ve often seen the Brazilian skip past defenders and dance around them with his Brazilian flair. Mikel Arteta has played a key role in his development at the Emirates.
Back in September Arteta praised the mentality shown by Martinelli to fight for his place in the Arsenal side.
“When he wasn’t playing, he was all the time in my office and every time showing me on the pitch how wrong I was,” said Arteta via Football London.
“And, (from) the moment that we agreed that he was ready to do it, the way he has improved, the way he is helping the team and still the room for improvement he has is phenomenal.
“He’s just a sad boy (when he’s not playing). He loves what he does. He’s so eager to do whatever it takes for him to play that he’s all the time there, pushing you and giving you the right reasons to give him more minutes. It’s just a joy to watch the freedom and personality that he plays with.”
The Gunners have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League season in years and will be top of the table at Christmas, while Martinelli also has every chance of being successful with Brazil in Qatar as they enter the tournament as one of the favourites.
“In a year, if you look at the game that he played here a year ago and today, it’s just incredible how fast they grow,” said Arteta.
“They mature, they recognise situations, execution level, the understanding and even physically he looks a different player.”
You can tell that Martinelli is flying with confidence right now and hopefully it is only a matter of time before he is given a bigger role to play in the Brazil set-up.
During the World Cup so far the Arsenal winger has only featured in a cameo appearance off the bench in Brazil’s 2-0 win over Serbia.
If his highlight reel in training is anything to go by, he will get his chance soon enough. It’s not the first time he’s produced some outrageous skills in training either.
In their latest training session, he absolutely rinses Gleison Bremer with a filthy rabona nutmeg. There’s just no stopping him at the moment.
