Watch: Man Utd’s Kobbie Mainoo fools defenders with brilliant skill

Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo continued to enhance his burgeoning reputation during a 2-0 win over Minnesota United’s Under-17s.

Mainoo, who was born in Stockport in April 2005, is regarded as one of United’s best prospects and is renowned for his repertoire of skills.

The midfielder has played a key role in their FA Youth Cup run this season, helping United reach the final of the competition for the first time since 2012.

“Kobbie is a top player and a good lad as well,” team-mate Dan Gore said after the semi-final win over Wolves. “We work well with each other. If one is out of position the other will fill in.

“We work well for each other, we talk a lot to each other and the boys – give encouragement. Me and Kobbie have played with each other for a long time, we have a good connection and we know each other very well.”

Mainoo was the youngest player in United’s starting XI for that 3-0 win over Wolves and is still eligible to play for their Under-17s.

He’s currently captaining the Under-17s at the 2022 Adidas Generation Cup. The tournament is being held in Dallas and it features big teams like Celtic, River Plate, Roma and several MLS sides.

After scoring in a 2-0 win over Orlando City, Mainoo helped his side to a 3-0 victory over Chicago Fire. The Red Devils then needed to beat Minnesota United in their final group game to reach the knockout stages.

Mainoo won a penalty in the opening 17 minutes and then dusted himself down before planting the spot-kick into the bottom corner.

He almost doubled their lead in the second half after skipping past two defenders on the edge of the penalty area, but his shot hit the side netting.

Victor Musa did get United’s second goal in the 50th minute and they are now through to the round of 16.
