Lionel Messi and his Argentina team-mates crashed Sergio Aguero’s twitch stream – and it was priceless.

Since hanging up his boots, Aguero has become something of a social media star on Twitch, amassing 4.3 million on the video streaming platform.

Ahead of the Albiceleste’s crunch quarter-final clash against the Netherlands on Friday night, Messi – alongside Sevilla forward Papu Gomez – found time to join Aguero’s twitch stream and talk at length.

Aguero, 34, might have hoped to be part of Argentina’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar, but it wasn’t to be.

It’s almost exactly a year since Aguero announced his early retirement from football, having been forced to after a hidden heart condition was discovered early on during the striker’s short-lived stint at Barcelona.

Messi ended up leaving the Catalan club the same summer that his boyhood pal arrived at the Camp Nou, so the pair never had a chance to play together at club level.

“We lived very beautiful moments and others that were not so, all of us united us more and more and made us better friends. We are going to continue living them together. With the great joy of lifting the Copa America, all you achieved in England”, Messi wrote in a heartfelt Instagram tribute at the time.

“The truth is it hurts a lot to see how you have to stop doing what you like the most. You will continue to be happy – you are a person who transmits happiness and those of us who love you will be with you.”

That certainly looks to be the case, with Aguero seemingly happy and totally at ease in his new life as a Twitch streamer.

Everything descended into a fit of giggles when Rodrigo De Paul and Leandro Paredes crashed the interview, while Gomez hilariously compared his new style – shaven head, thick stubble – to England icon David Beckham. It didn’t look as though Messi and Aguero were having that, from our very limited understanding of Spanish.

Messi had famously been known to be shy and quiet growing up, avoiding media appearances and interviews as much as possible, but in his role as Argentina captain he’s said to have totally embraced his leadership duties and the attention that brings. Appearing on Aguero’s Twitch stream, he looks a complete natural in front of the camera.
