Watch: Man Utd target Sesko shows up Liverpool players with insane skill
Manchester United transfer target Benjamin Sesko showed why he’s being described as the ‘new Erling Haaland’ with a stunning performance against Liverpool last night.
Sesko scored the only goal of the game and as Red Bull Salzburg beat Jurgen Klopp’s Reds 1-0 at the Red Bull Arena in Austria.
Earlier this week, links emerged between Manchester United and the 19-year-old Slovenia international – and on this evidence you can see why he’s being talked up as a potential Cristiano Ronaldo replacement.
“Red Bull Salzburg have another jewel, Benjamin Sesko,” transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel earlier this week.
“This talented player – very, very good player – we had some rumours on Sunday afternoon.
“After my checks, I can state that Manchester United are following this guy. They consider him a really talented player.
“So he’s one of the players they’re considering internally. He’s a player appreciated by Manchester United. Their scouting group knows him so well and they consider him a really interesting talent.
“But, at the moment, it’s not an imminent deal. It’s not an advanced deal. So we’ll see if Manchester United decide to submit a proposal for Sesko or not. There are many clubs well-informed on him, including Newcastle.”
Sesko remains contracted at Salzburg until 2026 and is one of their most highly-prized assets. He looks set for a big season at the Austrian Bundesliga champions, as he’s now their main attacking threat following the departure of highly-rated German youngster Karim Adeyemi to Borussia Dortmund.
As well as Haaland and Adeyemi, the likes of Patson Daka and Dominik Szobozlai have also come through the Austrian club in recent years and Sesko appears to be their next gem.
“First half we made too many mistakes, which they could use,” Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool’s official site after the defeat to Sesko’s Salzburg.
“We had good moments as well, we could have scored obviously in the whole game like four or five goals at least. Didn’t do that because we were in the first half – if you want to talk about football – we were too open, we were too wide, we were not connected enough in moments when you lose the ball.
“Then everything is open, it’s like a motorway, and with their speed that’s how they had their chances, especially when you lose simple passes where nobody can react really.”
As well as his finely-taken goal, one of Sesko’s most eye-catching moments came shortly before half-time, when he collected the ball out on the wing and pulled off a truly ridiculous piece of skill to send James Milner and Curtis Jones for a hot dog.
