Watch: Fabrizio Romano gives latest on Man Utd, Martinez and De Jong

Fabrizio Romano has provided us with an update that will be music to the ears of Manchester United fans and new boss Erik ten Hag – with Frenkie de Jong and Lisandro Martinez now looking likely to join the club.

It looks increasingly likely that Ten Hag will be reuniting with two of his former players at Old Trafford this summer, if Romano’s latest YouTube video report is to be believed.

Finally, there appears to have been a breakthrough in the transfer saga that’s rumbled on all summer: Barcelona have accepted Manchester United’s bid and the final stumbling block is to convince the midfielder to join Ten Hag’s project.

“There is an agreement in place – full agreement – between Manchester United and Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong,” Romano began.

“I’ve told you many times, this deal will not collapse because of the clubs, who have an agreement on everything now. The fee is €75million guaranteed, with add-ons up to €85million total package. This is the agreement between Barcelona and Manchester United.

“Now, Manchester United need to convince Frenkie de Jong, because on his side, he’s still in the same position: he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona.

“So now Barcelona are sending a strong message. At the same point, Manchester United are doing all they can to sign De Jong, but Frenkie is clear – his agents informed Barcelona that he wants to stay and not leave the club this summer.”

So while there’s been progress, it remains up in the air which shirt De Jong will be wearing in the upcoming 2022-23 campaign.

Things look much more clear-cut with regards to Martinez. The Argentina international centre-back looks set to follow Ten Hag from Ajax to Old Trafford.

“Big news for Manchester United!” says Romano.

“Because a new signing is coming. Here we go, he’s really coming. Lisandro Martinez, the centre-back from Ajax, is joining for a fee of €50million plus €5million in add-ons.

“Contracts are being checked and signed by Martinez, who decided to join Manchester United despite strong interest from Arsenal.”
