Watch: Patrice Evra tells Carra to ‘stay in your lane’ after Ronaldo goal
Manchester United cult hero Patrice Evra waded into the Cristiano Ronaldo debate in typically outspoken fashion after Manchester United’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal on Thursday evening.
Ronaldo scored the 800 and 801st goals of his career as United came from behind to beat Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, a milestone Evra was keen to point to following Jamie Carragher’s heated argument with Roy Keane on Sunday.
According to official FIFA records, only Czech legend Josef Bican has scored more (805 from 1931 to 1957); another record that Ronaldo will surely break in the coming weeks.
In spite of being among the game’s greatest goalscorers, Carragher had questioned the wisdom of United bringing the fan favourite back to Old Trafford. In fairness, United’s form since Ronaldo returned hasn’t been great.
“There’s a lot of talk about this player,” began Evra, speaking as a pundit on Amazon Prime.
“I really don’t understand. Some players like Jamie Carragher. He had 775 games. Cristiano today scored 801 goals. And those type of people talk about Cristiano. I think sometimes people need to stay in their lane.”
