“Four more years of this!” Ferdinand reacts to Klopp contract extension

Jurgen Klopp’s decision to extend his Liverpool contract until 2026 was met with widespread relief from Liverpool supporters – but former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand had a different take on the news.

With Liverpool still chasing the quadruple, and proving themselves to be arguably the best team in Europe right now, even staunch United supporters like Ferdinand have praised Klopp and his side.

“This is the best Liverpool team I’ve ever seen. They’re relentless with and without the ball,” Ferdinand told BT Sport after Wednesday’s victory over Villarreal.

“It’s the way they press teams, the energy, effort, application, you marvel at it. That [the quadruple] has got to be the aim. They are going to set themselves the target. If they achieve it, they’re immortal, they are above anyone that has played the game in this country.

“Whether they can achieve it remains to be seen. But they’re ticking boxes along the way at the moment.”

Ferdinand also praised Liverpool’s recruitment, saying: “The recruitment, it’s amazing what they’ve done.

“They don’t get many wrong. The important part is when players come through the door here, they improve.

“When Mane came here, you wouldn’t have said he was going to be a world class finisher. Mo Salah even when he came, you’d never imagine he’d be doing what’s he doing.”

And Ferdinand continued to praise Klopp before Liverpool’s Premier League clash at Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime.

When asked by Jake Humphrey for his opinion about Klopp’s contract extension, he replied: “You just think it’s another four years of having to watch this!”

“He’s a great character, great personality, but first and foremost a fantastic manager.”

When people connected with Manchester United are singing your manager’s praises, you know you’re on to a good thing – and Liverpool will have four more years of Klopp.
