Watch: Roy Keane despairs at Man Utd in epic half-time rant

Manchester United came into Sunday’s Manchester derby full of confidence that was shredded within 45 minutes – and club legend Roy Keane didn’t hold back about his side’s display.

Sky Sports’ pre-match build-up had been momentarily interrupted after a water sprinkler went off beside the pundits. Gary Neville appeared to get the worst of the soakings and didn’t look too happy, but Keane hardly moved at all.

Sharing a clip of the incident on Twitter, Sky Sports Premier League wrote: “Attack of the sprinklers. Gary Neville was straight out of there.

“Micah [Richards] felt that one. Roy Keane hardly moved an inch.”

The former United captain has never held back about his old side’s shortcomings but a good run of form before this Premier League encounter gave everybody of a United persuasion some hope of an improved display.

But, in 45 chastening minutes, City had stuck four past David de Gea and showed that any presumption of a United revival was premature.

Phil Foden opened the scoring in the game’s opening stages before City captain Ilkay Gundogan hit the post with a brilliant free-kick.

United hadn’t played terribly but their afternoon worsened following a quick-fire double from Erling Haaland; a towering header from a corner and a poacher’s finish from De Bruyne’s searching cross.

And the Norway international turned provider for Foden as the City fans crowed over their Manchester rivals following a dominant first-half display.

Speaking at half-time, Keane said: “At this stage the games getting stretched [4-0], certainly not suiting Manchester United. Eriksen here, you’ve got to foul him, foul him, make the sacrifice, he fouls him too late.

“United all over the place, space everywhere, Haaland great pass, brilliant from Foden. It’s absolutely brilliant. Man United, oh my god, it’s like the game’s too big for them – the occasion’s almost got to the players. I can’t believe what I’m watching.

“Maybe lack of belief. We gave them plaudits at the beginning of the match, there was question marks over the City players missing but it’s been easy for them. As poor as Man United have been, their passing has been sloppy – there’s gaps everywhere. McTominay and Eriksen have been pulled everywhere.

“It could get a lot worse. The manager – what do you do now? Do you just sit in and take your medicine or do you have a go? You’re Man United – you can’t get too embarrassed. I can’t believe how bad Manchester United have been.

“I know the signs over the last four games have been positive. It’s about pride, personality – they’ve not shown it.”
