Watch: Tyrell Malacia impresses during energetic Man Utd training

Manchester United are currently in pre-season training mode as they prepare for their first season under Erik ten Hag’s management – and new signing Tyrell Malacia has impressed onlookers with his intensity and commitment during these sessions.

Malacia arrived at Old Trafford earlier this week from Feyenoord, becoming Ten Hag’s first signing for United.

“It’s an incredible feeling to have joined Manchester United,” Malacia said in his first interview after joining the club.

“This is a new chapter for me, a new league with new team-mates and a tremendous manager leading us. I know from playing against his teams in the Eredivisie, the qualities that he has and what he demands of his players.

“Whilst I know that I am still young and will continue to develop, I can promise the United fans that I will leave everything on the pitch every time I pull on the red shirt. I’m ready to focus on the future with United, and help my new club achieve success.”

And the left-back will battle Luke Shaw and Alex Telles for a place in United’s starting line-up and has made a good first impression with his application during training footage posted by the club’s Twitter account.

Malacia took part in several drills, including one styled around Barcelona’s famous ‘rondo’. The 22-year-old was one of the players around the outside of the ring, with left-back rival Telles selected as one of the two defensive players.

And the Netherlands international showed up his new team-mate in some style, consistently keeping the ball away from him.

Two moments stood out in particular, as Malacia rolled the ball from one foot to the other before poking it away from Telles.

He could later be seen charging down Taith Chong with the kind of determination Ten Hag will be seeking from his new charges as a bare minimum.

There were also sightings of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford being put through their paces as the Red Devils look to recover from a hugely disappointing 2021-22 season.

United are set to head off for a pre-season tour of Asia and Australia on Friday, with Malacia joining them on the plane. Their first Premier League match will be against Brighton on August 7 at Old Trafford.
