Watch: Aaron Ramsdale starts Arsenal attack with pinpoint pass on debut

There was plenty of debate surrounding Arsenal’s decision to spend £24million on goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, but he shut up a few critics on his debut against West Brom in the League Cup on Wednesday night.

He was not kept too busy against a backup Baggies’ side but he showed excellent ability with the ball at his feet, with an excellent pass in the first half catching the eye.

Mikel Arteta’s men romped to a 6-0 win. A first-half brace from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and another strike from Nicolas Pepe put them firmly in control at the break.

A third strike from Aubameyang and goals from Bukayo Saka and Alexandre Lacazette rounded off the much-needed thrashing after a tough start to the Premier League campaign.

Ramsdale’s notable moment of playmaking came inside the first half, passing to Martin Odegaard, who was making his first start since signing permanently for the Gunners, and taking a number of West Brom attackers out of the game in one movement.

The 23-year-old will still have work to do to convince his new supporters that he was a wise investment, but this was a very good start.
