Aaron Wan-Bissaka is nicknamed The Spider at Manchester United for his ability to make recovery tackles – and his long legs proved handy for another reason against Rochdale on Wednesday.
United needed penalties to overcome their League One opponents in the League Cup, with 16-year-old Luke Matheson cancelling out Mason Greenwood’s opener at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side dominated in most respects, taking 31 shots on goal, but they were far from impressive, not breaking the deadlock until the 68th minute and very nearly falling behind early into the second half.
Oliver Rathbone broke past a couple of challenges and got to within a couple of yards of Sergio Romero’s goal, pulling the ball back for Callum Camps to seemingly score a certain goal inside the six-yard box with the United keeper stranded.
However, Camps slightly scuffed his effort and Wan-Bissaka acrobatically got a foot to the ball despite heading in the wrong direction, somehow managing to lift the ball over the bar to safety.
Watch the brilliant clearance below.
