Watch: Gabriel Martinelli destroys Soucek with a soul-crushing nutmeg

Gabriel Martinelli was instrumental during Arsenal’s 2-0 Premier League win over West Ham and one nutmeg almost sent opponent Tomas Soucek back to Slavia Prague.

Martinelli opened the scoring early in the second half, confidently slotting the ball home after making a good run behind the West Ham backline.

And the 20-year-old demonstrated his sky-high confidence when the towering Soucek came in for a challenge shortly after.

Rolling the ball between the Czech Republic international’s legs, Martinelli glided past him and laid the ball off to team-mate Thomas Partey to keep ahold of possession before any West Ham player could react.

Mikel Arteta singled out the young striker for praise after the victory, telling reporters: “Well certainly it was one of the best in every aspect of the game.

“He was cramping again and he needs to mature in that sense but his overall understanding of the game is getting much better.

“He’s able to put some gears into his play. Sometimes he’s still doing everything at 100 miles per hour but the energy and quality he shows at times are top.”
