Watch: Carragher urges Pochettino to quit PSG and join Man Utd
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has urged Mauricio Pochettino to leave Paris Saint-Germain following their 2-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Pochettino is Manchester United’s top target to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and is reportedly unhappy with a few things at the Parc des Princes.
The Argentine has a reputation as a pressing coach but the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe aren’t exactly renowned for their defensive work.
While speaking on CBS Sports, Carragher questioned the work ethic of that big-name front three and felt that their reluctance to track back played a big part in their defeat at the Etihad.
The 43-year-old was quick to say that Pochettino should return to England if offered the United job and Thierry Henry shared Carragher’s stance.
If you want to win the Champions League, you cannot defend with seven players,” Henry said. “It is impossible, I don’t care who you are. The full-backs are exposed, so it’s virtually a three vs one, three vs two on the pitch.
“Team that win titles – and the Champions League even more so – have their front-three facing the ball.
“Pochettino has to get out of the club. If he has the chance to go to Manchester United. I would be gone tomorrow and it’s because of those 3 stars”@carra23 and Thierry Henry talk about the way PSG are shaped 👀 pic.twitter.com/MZ6fxJVuXG
