Watch: Conor Gallagher evades Leeds press with superb dribble
Chelsea starlet Conor Gallagher was reportedly close to joining Leeds United on loan in the summer. The move never materialised, but he still caught the eye at Elland Road on Tuesday evening.
The 21-year-old midfielder has shown his promise at previous loans at Charlton Athletic, Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion but seems to have taken his game up another level at Patrick Vieira’s new-look Crystal Palace.
Central midfield has been a problem position for Leeds this season, and Gallagher – who has four goals and three assists so far – demonstrated once again he’d have been a useful player for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Palace ended up losing 1-0 on the night after Raphinha slotted home an injury-time penalty, but they were competitive at Elland Road, spurning chances to win it themselves. It wasn’t Gallagher’s liveliest game to date, but he still had his moments.
One in particular was particularly impressive, evading Leeds’ infamously aggressive press with a brilliant dribble out from deep in his own half, beating a couple of players before bursting past the halfway line.
He was taken out in the end by Adam Forshaw, who took one for the team with a well-timed tactical foul.
