Watch: Chelsea loanee Broja scores two & assists one on Southampton debut
Southampton found themselves on the right side of a thrashing for once on Wednesday night as they beat Newport County 8-0 in the League Cup, a game in which Chelsea loanee Armando Broja shone.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have been on the end of 9-0 defeats in the last two Premier League seasons, against Manchester United and Leicester respectively, so it will have been a relief to finally dish one out themselves.
Broja got the scoring underway with less than 10 minutes played, reacting quickest to tap in on his debut after a shot was spilt by Nick Townsend in the Newport goal. Nathan Tella and Kyle Walker-Peters put the game beyond doubt before half-time with a goal each.
But the Saints did not let up. Winger Mohamed Elyounoussi scored a second-half hat-trick, including one from a thumbled Broja shot, while Nathan Redmond and the Albanian striker added some serious gloss to the result, taking the south-coast side to eight.
It was a brilliant display from Chelsea’s 19-year-old prodigy and you can take a look at all of his contributions in the match below.
