Watch: Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku pushed offside by opponent

Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku before the UEFA Champions League match between Juventus and Chelsea, September 2021.

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku enjoyed a blistering start to the season but the goals have dried up in recent weeks – and his change in fortune was illustrated as a Brentford defender pushed him into an offside position on Saturday.

Lukaku cost Chelsea £98million to prise from Inter Milan in the summer with the expectation that he’d score the goals to fire the club to their first Premier League crown since 2017.

And, while Lukaku has netted frequently, the sight of him being physically outwitted by an opponent won’t go down well with Chelsea supporters.

During a tough away assignment at Brentford, Lukaku got himself into a promising position as strike partner Timo Werner raced down the wing and prepared to centre the ball.

But the Belgium international was pushed into an offside position at the last moment and was unable to capitalise on his team-mate’s good work.
