Watch: Chelsea’s Ziyech dissects opposition with sweeping pass

Hakim Ziyech has found life tough at Chelsea this season but he almost pulled off an inspired assist during their 3-0 win at Leicester on Saturday.

Signed from Ajax for €40 million in 2020, Ziyech has struggled with injuries and inconsistent form at Stamford Bridge and was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Burnley before the international break.

But the Morocco international took his chance to shine after coming off the bench at the King Power Stadium and dissected the Leicester defence with the sweeping pass.

Picking up the ball on the right flank, Ziyech picked out Christian Pulisic in the penalty area but his Chelsea team-mate was unable to turn the ball home.

Luckily, Ziyech was able to register an assist later on. After sending Caglar Soyuncu off for a copy of the Leicester Mercury, he rolled a pass towards Pulisic who scored Chelsea’s third.

There has since been speculation that Ziyech would like to leave on loan, but Thomas Tuchel recently emphasised that the 28-year-old remains a key player for the club.

“At the moment here in Cobham there are no thoughts about his future,” Tuchel said.

“There are no thoughts about a potential change, swap deal or whatever in winter. I have talked to nobody about that here in Cobham, so that’s made up from media.”
