Daniele de Rossi marked his Boca Juniors debut with a goal on Tuesday night, only for his first appearance for his new club to end in disappointment with a shock defeat to second-tier outfit Almagro.
Boca faced Almagro in the round of 32 in the Copa Argentina, with De Rossi heading home the opener in the 28th minute.
The hosts were still leading when the former Roma hero was substituted off with only 13 minutes remaining of the second half.
But the underdogs grabbed an equaliser five minutes later and went on to cause an upset by winning 3-1 in the penalty shootout – with Carlos Tevez the only player to convert from 12 yards for Boca.
