Watch: Diego Costa kicks Sergio Ramos in head in battle of the sh*thouses

Diego Costa was never the most popular player in Liverpool during his time at Chelsea, but that all may be about to change after the striker kicked Sergio Ramos in the head during Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Super Cup victory over Real Madrid.

Atleti beat their city rivals 4-2 in Estonia thanks in no small part to the performance of Costa.

The Spain international opened the scoring after just 50 seconds – the fastest goal ever scored in the fixture – and equalised late on to take the game to extra time.

Costa then played a big part in Atleti’s third, scored by Saul Niguez, before Koke completed the scoring.

There were also a couple of unsurprising moments of controversy in the battle between two of football’s great pantomime villains: Costa and Sergio Ramos.

Ramos appeared to elbow the forward in the face early on, but Costa exacted his revenge in the second half, catching the defender’s head with a stray boot as they chased down the ball.

Costa was involved in a number of controversial clashes with Liverpool as a Chelsea player, but all may be forgiven in Merseyside after his tussle with the man who ruined Mohamed Salah’s Champions League final.
