Watch: Jota celebrates Liverpool goal by pretending to play FIFA
Diogo Jota celebrated scoring his goal for Liverpool against Southampton in the Premier League by sitting down and pretending to play FIFA – after he had to stop playing the game to make it to the match on time.
Jota was taking part in a FIFA international qualifier but had to quit early in order to get to Anfield for the match as messages he exchanged with another player revealed.
Just a couple of hours later he scored for the Reds in real life when he bagged the opener against the Saints and celebrated by sitting down cross-legged and mimicking playing with a controller.
It was a simple finish for the Portuguese international, who slid in to convert the ball when Robertson pulled it back across the face of the goal. It was the earliest goal scored so far Premier League season, coming after just 97 seconds.
Jota signed for Liverpool from Wolves in the 2020 summer transfer window and has been heavily called upon since arriving at Anfield.
