Watch: Edinson Cavani hits bar with Eric Cantona-esque chip vs PSG
Edinson Cavani came agonisingly close to haunting his former club only to see his beautiful chip come back off the crossbar in Manchester United‘s Champions League clash with PSG.
While many pundits criticised United’s decision to sign Cavani on a free transfer this summer, the Uruguayan has made a fine start to life at Old Trafford, scoring three times in the Premier League in five substitute appearances.
After scoring twice to inspire United’s comeback against Southampton at the weekend, the 33-year-old was handed a start against PSG, where he spent seven hugely successful years before his contract expired earlier this year.
An angry Neymar confronted Scott McTominay at half-time after the midfielder stood on the Brazilian’s ankle following a heavy tackle.
Neymar himself had opened the scoring before Marcus Rashford’s equaliser. Cavani almost put United ahead in the second half only to see his sumptuous chip, reminiscent of Eric Cantona, come back off the crossbar.
His disappointment was confounded as Marquinhos and Neymar scored either side of Fred’s red card for the hosts.
