Watch: Edouard Mendy pulls off outstanding save to deny Benzema

Edouard Mendy was in inspired form in the Chelsea goal on Wednesday night as they welcomed Real Madrid to Stamford Bridge.

After a 1-1 draw in Spain last week, Thomas Tuchel’s side boasted a narrow lead on away goals, but they stretched that advantage after just 28 minutes in West London.

Kai Havertz saw his chipped shot strike the bar after an excellent run and pass from N’Golo Kante, but Timo Werner was there to nod home to make it 2-1 on aggregate.

But just moments later, Mendy was called into action to ensure that Chelsea’s narrow advantage remained intact.

Having already frustrated Karim Benzema once, tipping his vicious strike around the post, Mendy reacted brilliantly to palm the Frenchman’s header over the bar.

Those saves looked all the more vital when Mason Mount fired home a second five minutes from time to secure the Blues spot in Istanbul for the third all-English final in the history of the competition.
