Watch: Martin Skrtel channels his inner-Messi with stunning solo goal
Martin Skrtel belied his reputation as a no-nonsense defender to score a stunning solo goal for Fenerbahce on Friday night.
Former Liverpool centre-back Skrtel became known as one of the most intimidating figures in the Premier League during his eight-year spell at Anfield due to his tough, uncompromising style of play.
But the 32-year-old proved that he does indeed possess some silky skills with a goal which Lionel Messi would have been proud of for Fenerbahce.
Collecting the ball in his own half, Skrtel bursts past a host of Konyaspor defenders on a mazy run towards the opposition box before unleashing an impressive finish from long range.

Sadly, Skrtel’s heroics went somewhat to waste, with the visitors restoring their lead just two minutes later before going on to secure a 3-2 victory which leaves Fenerbahce fourth in the Turkish top flight.
