Watch: Ex-Man Utd prospect Angel Gomes scores smart goal for Boavista

Ex-Manchester United prospect Angel Gomes scored for Portuguese side Boavista before later getting sent off.

Gomes came through the United academy and made his senior debut aged just 16 in 2017, becoming the first player born in 2000 to appear in the Premier League.

But he only made another nine first-team appearances for the club and rejected the offer of a new contract at Old Trafford.

The midfielder joined Ligue 1 side Lille last summer and was immediately sent out on loan to Boavista.

And Gomes has consistently shown United what they’ve been missing after scoring five goals in 22 appearances in the Primeira Liga.

For all his success, the 20-year-old was involved in a bizarre series of events during Boavista’s 2-0 win at Belenenses on Sunday.

Gomes opened the scoring just before half-time with a smart turn and shot that eluded the goalkeeper.

But the midfielder was sent off for receiving a second yellow card midway through the second half.
