Watch: Fabrizio Romano has news on three Man Utd targets

Manchester United are expected to busy in the final throes of the summer transfer window and Fabrizio Romano has news of three potentially huge signings that could be arriving at Old Trafford in the coming days.

Despite victories over Liverpool and Southampton this week, most United fans are aware that their squad still requires major surgery after a traumatic 2021-22 season.

The likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Nemanja Matic, Eric Bailly and Juan Mata have all left the club since the end of the last campaign with new manager Erik ten Hag taking the opportunity to reshape the squad in his own image.

Ten Hag has recruited Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro over the summer months but United are still short in the forward areas as they look to regain a Champions League spot at the very minimum.

Cristiano Ronaldo has spent the entire summer wanting, but failing, to leave Old Trafford and Ten Hag has been forced to rely upon Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in his opening league matches.

The former Ajax boss even resorted to starting Eriksen as a false nine during their opening weekend defeat to Brighton and it’s no surprise United are being linked with a host of high-profile forwards as the window enters its final week.

Ajax forward Antony is said to be United’s top target. The 23-year-old and his agent are pushing for a move to Old Trafford after United’s £67million bid was rejected last week.

Antony has skipped training and wasn’t part of Ajax’s squad against Sparta Rotterdam last Sunday, and spoke of his desire to join the Premier League giants in an exclusive interview with Romano last week.

And United have also been linked with two Barcelona forwards with previous Premier League experience; Memphis Depay and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said: “Memphis Depay is ready to terminate his contract with Barcelona if he can find another top club.

“There have been some contacts between Memphis and Man United to explore the situation. United are keeping an eye on the situation of Memphis in case they’ll have some problems with other deals but there is no direct negotiation with Barcelona.”

Turning his attention to Aubameyang, the Italian journalist said: “It’s true that Manchester United have asked for information about Aubameyang but it’s also true that Aubameyang has an agreement on personal terms with Chelsea.

“He wants to play Champions League football so his priority has always been Chelsea but let’s see what happens.”

Finally, addressing United’s pursuit of Antony, Romano said: “There was a €90million bid turned down on Friday afternoon but United are still there and want to try and sign the player.

“They know he only wants to join them so keep an eye on Antony to the end. Ajax are making difficult, and we have to respect their position, but it’s true that United are still there and the situation is still under discussion.”
