Watch: Balogun skips past defenders & scores stunning goal for Arsenal U23s

Folarin Balogun gave Mikel Arteta a timely reminder of his abilities with a stunning goal for Arsenal ‘s Under-23s on Friday night.

Balogun has struggled to establish himself in the first-team this season and has been limited to Europa League and Carabao Cup appearances.

The 19-year-old only has six months remaining on his current deal with the Gunners and is attracting interest from several European clubs.

“If anything – regarding his contractual situation with the club – I just want to convince him that he has a future at the club, not send him the opposite message,” Mikel Arteta said.

“Before he wasn’t training with the first team, we changed that and he’s been training with us a lot. He’s improving every single day, he’s showing a real hunger and decided to be with us.

“We’re trying to get something done because we want him to stay and we have to go step-by-step. I think he’s made some big steps in the last few months, where he wasn’t even training and then he had a few good games for us.

“So the steps are there in every way and we want to try to keep him.”

The striker scored a hat-trick in Arsenal Under-23s 5-0 win over Brighton on Friday, including a sensational solo goal.

He didn’t make the bench for Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton in the FA Cup and shared a video of the goal on Twitter moments after the full-time whistle at St Mary’s.
