Watch: Ibrahima Konate leaves Zaha on the floor during Liverpool debut

Ibrahima Konate marked his Liverpool debut with a clean sheet and an assured performance in their 3-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield.

Konate joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in the summer but has been eased into side, sitting on the bench for their first five games in 2021-22.

The centre-back started alongside Virgil van Dijk against Palace, coming up against the likes of Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha.

During the first half, he showed his pace and strength before leaving Zaha in a heap on the floor. Sadio Mane gave the hosts the lead and Mo Salah and Naby Keita also got on the scoresheet in the second half.

“You can see he is incredibly talented,” Jurgen Klopp said after the game. “The potential is outstanding. He is used to winning challenges easy. He is young and he played a really good game. Massive. First home game for him.

“You want the team to watch the games and see what we do. We need to have experience from what we see. And he did really well. So much potential.

“He will get better. Today, against Benteke and Edouard and Zaha, there were situations where it is new for him. Step by step.”
